Financial Costs
Educating a large group of healthcare professionals on the MDS RAI assessment methodology is not only a complex process but will also have financial costs associated with it. As part of evaluating different educational approaches it is important to analyze the total costs of each approach.
Each organization is unique with different internal policies, procedures and cost drivers and thus developing a cost model that is perfect for every organization is difficult. The following attachment is a cost example based on a fictitious organization called Acme Care Providers Inc. a provider of long-term care services. Acme has decided to implement the MDS 2.0 within its 3,500 LTC beds and has the challenge of training 800 nursing staff on the RAI 2.0 instrument. ACME has implemented computers throughout its nursing homes and each computer is multi-media ready. Acme wants to determine the potential cost savings of using eLearning technology rather than their traditional instructor-led methods.
This example shows a direct cost comparison between instructor-led and eLearning based training. Such a worksheet ideally is used in the planning stages of a project to determine the most appropriate form of delivery. However, even if you have already chosen the CD-ROM or Web-based technology for reasons other than cost (such as learning effectiveness or an organizational requirement), the worksheet can help you analyze potential savings of self-paced eLearning over live workshops.
