AIS to Assist New Zealand District Health Boards in RAI-HC Pilot
November 30, 2004

Wellington, New Zealand - Mr. Tim Baribeau, Vice President of AIS Assessment & Intelligence Systems Inc. (AIS) announced today that AIS has been selected to provide their Mastering RAI-HC eLearning system to five District Health Boards in New Zealand. The Mastering RAI-HC eLearning instructional system will assist in the deployment of the RAI Home Care assessment methodology.

“The fifteen month RAI pilot project is a first of its kind in New Zealand. The RAI-HC assessment instrument will provide the District Health Boards access to evidence-based assessment information that will enable them to more efficiently manage their care operations,” stated Tim Baribeau, Vice President of AIS, “The purpose of the pilot is to confirm expectations as to the utility of RAI methodology and to develop an implementation plan for the potential rollout of the RAI-HC on a permanent basis. In order for the pilot project to be successful, the project team needs to develop partnerships with industry leaders who can provide their expertise to the project. We have been instrumental in assisting various countries around the world in the adoption of the RAI assessment methodology and we look to play an integral roll in the New Zealand pilot project”.

“The RAI-HC instrument is a multidimensional assessment instrument developed by interRAI. For the pilot project to be successful and for the District Health Boards to realize the full potential of the RAI-HC methodology, they must develop a sustainable education strategy to support initial and ongoing education,” said Tim Baribeau. “As demonstrated in other countries around the world, the AIS Mastering RAI-HC solution will provide the District Health Boards a cost effective means to deliver high quality, standardized education.”

The Mastering RAI-HC is a multimedia eLearning system that integrates the expert advice of instructional designers, certified RAI trainers, leading RAI researchers and proven instructional material. Mastering RAI- HC is based on an instructional framework that combines the principles of situated cognition, reflective practice and motivational design to strengthen the links between the learner’s experience and day-to-day experience in the workplace. Target audiences include nurses, social workers, other multidisciplinary team members, RAI instructors, administrators, policy makers and researchers. The learning is situated within real life scenarios through the use of video and audio clips of clinical interactions and case studies.

AIS brings over 50 years of healthcare experience including over 10 years in the emerging field of RAI and assessment methodology. Along with their efforts in the Canada, AIS has had the opportunity to assist organizations in the United Kingdom, the United States, Iceland and Australia in implementing MDS.
