Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Selects AIS to provide Computer Based Instructional System to Assist in MDS 2.0 Rollout
October 2003

Mr. Gerry Labossiere, President of AIS Assessment & Intelligence Systems Inc. (AIS) announced today that the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) has selected AIS to provide the region with Mastering RAI 2.0 a computer based instructional system to assist in the deployment of MDS 2.0 to its 25 non-proprietary homes within the region.

“We believe that high quality education and ongoing instruction on the MDS assessment methodology and MDS applications is essential for our organization to realize the full potential of the MDS 2.0 implementation” stated Netha Dyck, Director of the Personal Care Home Program at the WRHA. “We must develop a culture of learning and establish effective processes for the continual transference of knowledge and best practice methods. We believe that the Mastering RAI 2.0 instructional system will allow us to deliver high quality, standardized MDS education in a cost-effective manner”.

The Mastering RAI 2.0 series is a computer based multimedia instructional system that integrates the expert advice of instructional designers, certified MDS trainers, leading MDS researchers and proven instructional material. Mastering RAI 2.0 is based on an instructional framework that combines the principles of situated cognition, reflective practice and motivational design to strengthen the links between the learner’s experience and day-to-day experience in the workplace. Target audiences include nurses, social workers, other multidisciplinary team members, MDS instructors, administrators, policy makers and researchers. The learning is situated within real life scenarios through the use of video and audio clips of clinical interactions and case studies.

The MDS 2.0 is a Minimum Data Set tool used for collection, analysis, and submission of long term care resident assessments.

AIS is pleased to welcome the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority to its ever growing family of clients across Canada and the United Kingdom.

Health eTraining International Inc. is a company specializing in research-based instructional design to provide ongoing content and product development of the Mastering RAI.

The WRHA is the largest of twelve Regional Health Authorities in Manitoba responsible for coordinating health services based on the needs of the people in each region. The WRHA encompasses over 200 health services, facilities and programs, including four community hospitals, two tertiary hospitals, three LTC health centres, 25 non-proprietary personal care homes (PCHs), 14 proprietary PCHs, and 21 community health offices.
